Mariah Carey Twitters Apology For Jackson Memorial Performance

July 9th, 2009

Mariah Carey has posted an apology on Twitter for her performance at Michael Jackson’s memorial service on Tuesday (July 7), admitting she was overwhelmed by seeing the King of Pop’s gold coffin at the front of the stage.

The singer performed the Jackson classic I’ll Be There in front of the packed house at the Staples Center in Los Angeles, but felt she wasn’t up to scratch, tweeting, “Trying to sing today was basically impossible for me.

“I could barely keep myself from crying. I’m sorry that I wasn’t able to pull it together and really do it right, but I was literally choked up when I saw him there in front of me.”

Carey added, “One thing I know is, we will never really have to say goodbye to MJ. His legacy lives on through his music and the millions of people. He inspired with his timeless music. He will be forever in our hearts.”
