Mary J. Blige Covers Led Zepplin’s Stairway To Heaven
March 21st, 2010
As much as we love Mary J. Blige, we’re not sure anyone should ever cover the Led Zeppelin classic Stairway To Heaven, however, MJB’s given it a crack and who are we to judge?! Have a listen after the jump.
Bjork, PJ Harvey, Tori Amos… Mary J Blige! Never would have thought I'd be saying this, but from this and her electrifying cover of U2's One, Blige has entered a league of female singers, which to my mind was impenetrable, especially by a singer so R'nB-defined. So crisp, so clear, so powerful, I think Mary has found a new life. I am tired of the same Oprah-esque records and songs drummed out by this fabulous singer and its about time she ventured into this territory. I'd like to see her pair with someone like Michael Stipe (as producer) for her next record. Imagine what the best of nineties rock meets the best of ninetees R 'n B meets the best of modern hip hop with say Kanye West would sound like. Blige, you bloody LEGEND!

MJB does an amazing cover of One, by U2. I know that Stairway is a classic, but I think she kicks ass.
