Matt Damon took part in the Escape to Miami Triathlon on Sunday (October 5), saying it was his brother that convinced him to take part after he’d put on weight for a movie role.
The ‘Bourne Identity’ star competed in the running portion of the race as part of a relay team with his stepfather Jay Jones, finishing the 6.2 mile leg in 59 minutes and 54 seconds.
”My brother talked me into it,” Damon told the Miami Herald. “I was doing this movie this summer where I had to put on all this weight and my brother told me, `October 5, save the date.”’
He adds, ”I’ve got to get in shape for the next thing I’m doing.”
Damon has been boxing to shed weight and was asked if he’d trade in his gloves for a pair of running shoes.
“I don’t think so,” he responded. “I knew I was in trouble when the old guy with the oxygen tank passed me.”
Jones, who is an experienced swimmer and biker, admitted that his Oscar winning stepson was “probably our team’s weakest link.”
