Mel B To Host Miss Universe Awards

June 25th, 2008

Spice Girl Melanie Brown is attempting a triumphant return to the spotlight following a rocky couple of years, with hopes that a new role as co-host of this year’s Miss Universe Pageant alongside Jerry Springer will boost her profile.

Brown is currently working on a solo album that she plans to release later this year, while her TLC music game show ‘The Singing Office’ - which she co-hosts with Joey Fatone - debuts this week. She also recently appeared on ‘Dancing With The Stars’, where she narrowly missed out on winning the finale to Brazilian racing driver, Helio Castroneves.

Her slew of current projects follow a tumultuous eighteen months for the singer; in 2006 she briefly dated funnyman Eddie Murphy, and following their split, announced her pregnancy. Brown gave birth to Murphy’s daughter, Angel, in April last year, but the baby underwent a paternity test at Murphy’s request, as he believed the child was not his. Three months later Brown married producer Stephen Belafonte.

Brown, 33, says she is “thrilled” to be involved in the Miss Universe pageant, which takes place in Vietnam on July 13.

“I’m thrilled to be a co-host of the Miss Universe pageant,” Brown said in a statement.

“I believe the diversity and dedication that the pageant brings inspires and empowers young women across the globe.”
