Michael Jackson Announces Thriller Broadway Show

January 27th, 2009

Michael Jackson announced Monday (January 26) that he is set to bring his 14-minute ‘Thriller’ music video to life on Broadway.

The 1983 clip, from the biggest selling album of all time, set a new standard for music videos when it was released and is a “horror film spoof in which a young couple are out on a date on a beautiful full moon evening, when suddenly the young man, played by Jackson, turns into a werewolf.”

The Nederlander Organization has acquired the rights to ‘Thriller’ and will produce the show with Jackson.

“This musical will be the exclusive Michael Jackson authorized version of ‘Thriller’ and Jackson will participate in every aspect of the creative process,” said James L. Nederlander in a statement.

“I love the idea of making ‘Thriller’ a musical,” he adds.  “Girl meets boy, they fall in love, boy has big secret, now what…”

Jackson’s rep, Dr. Tohme Tohme, also commented on the new collaboration saying, “The Nederlanders and Michael Jackson represent live theatre and musical excellence, so let the music begin.”
