Miley Cyrus Apology “Not Real”, Says OCA

February 9th, 2009

The Executive Director of the OCA, an Asian-American equality group, has said that Miley Cyrus’ apology for a photo where she is seen slanting her eyes is not enough and he is demanding a “fuller apology”.

A pic of the Disney star and friends found it’s way onto the web, with the image of Cyrus offending some members of the Asian community.

“I’ve also been told there are some people upset about some pictures taken of me with friends making goofy faces!” she explained on her website Thursday (February 6).  “Well, I’m sorry if those people looked at those pics and took them wrong and out of context!”

George Wu, from OCA, responded to Cyrus’ statement saying, “The picture is offensive and now this statement is inadequate.  It’s not a real apology. We’re not backing down without a fuller apology.”

Not defending Miley Cyrus or her and her friends moment of moronic behavior but she is a kid, and kids say and do stupid and insenstive things. A lot of parents out there think their kids don’t say or do stupid and insensitive things and are perfect angels? They’re kidding themselves! Just go to any high school.

Yes, Miley Cyrus needs to show some accountability, admit she was doing something insensitive and stupid, and issue a sincere apology rather than hiding behind publicists to protect her career and the image of her employers, Disney.

I don’t think she is a racist. Just lacking common sense, and defiant of consequences, like a lot of kids her age.

Robin Williams makes “goofy” voices of other ethnicities for a quick laugh and some of them are offensive. Does it make him a racist — an overt one at that?

The sad thing is that everyone is a little prejudiced inside. Want proof? Who do you route for in an international sporting event against another country? The good ol’ USA? Or how about a war? You were probably waving Stars and Stripes after 9/11, right? You can call it patriotism but it all stems from the same things as racism — tribalism and caveman tribal instincts. The “We’re better than you” mentality. We’re pack animals when you get right down to it and millions of years of evolution hasn’t changed it so far. Sad, huh?

    Mr. Wu,

You are blasting this young girl for something she did with friends in a private setting. While you consider the depiction in the picture as offensive, you are not persecuting the other individuals in the picture as you are Miss Cyrus which leaves people like me suspicious of your motivation. What bothers me is that all this news concerning this event led me to look up your website (which I’m sure you and your group received advertising kickbacks for). Good job. However, looking at the pictures I came across a similar picture of your group making the same type of gestures. Yes, there was even someone doing the bunny rabbit behind someones head. Here are some questions which might legitimize your indignant reaction to Miss Cyrus’ implied racially offensive actions:

Did you call a board meeting of your group and discuss the response you publized? What was the vote? Unanimous, or was there decension? If the motion passed to first draft a statement in the name of your group, did you ever seek out your group’s approval of your response? Why didn’t you seek out the Cyrus (parents) privately to express your revulsion to her act, and give them a chance to assess the context of the picture and whether an appropriate reaction should be to have Miss Cyrus or her parents give you an apology. Did you give the Cyrus (parents) a chance to correct Miss Cyrus’ behavior before blasting your response to the public? Why not? Did you make a simple phone call or letter or any other attempt to contact the parents and try to deal with the matter privately as it should have been, since she is still a minor, barely sixteen, and still in her formative years, despite her talent, and exposure to outside publicity resources? I could understand your complaint if you tried to deal with this privately, and the Cyrus’ ignored you, or made some other unsatifactory response to you and your group to correct the matter. Somehow, the lack of dealing with it, except by publicly humiliating her and putting the “racist” label on her, only can make one assume that you are promoting first yourself, and your supporters as being the pure asian americans you claim to support.

P.S. Oh by the way, I did not see in any of your web material support for the Russian Caucasians in Kamchatka or nearby areas. Looking at your pictures offers an outside party the observation that your group only accepts people whom have the extra fold of skin in their eyes. Judging by the age of you and your directors, I would not be suprised that your racist tones carried over from your homelands; after all we all know that caucasians, africans, and any other race other than the mongoloid race is very prevalent in the western pacific rim countries. That’s why there are so many of their ancestors depicted in your pictures.

Remember, racism is the constant conscious thought of your race in everything you do. Your persistent actions only provides the people you represent another reason to feel inferior. Prior to your indignancy, I actually never thought of asians (as you purport to represent, except as people; some wonderful, and others as not so wonderful, but individuals non the less. Now I look at your group with suspision, trying to suppress the power of caucasians, africans, and other races so you can dominate this country. Kudos, you have not represented yourself very well in my opinion, regardless of whether her actions were insensitive. She is just a kid, barely sixteen, with a whole lot on her shoulders. For the record, her parents should have intervened and asserted their rights to determine how to deal with privately. They didn’t, and let her twist in the wind by remaining silent, and letting her respond via her website. Mr. Wu, you are right. Her apology is not enough. She is just a teen!!!! What do you expect?!!! Why don’t you spend your time and resources helping getting out the Amerasians from the homelands you represent, who are consistently abused and subjected as inferior subhuman scum. Your website offers nothing to them.

To WooHoo….You are to be commended on a beautifully written letter above. Your opinion and thoughts on this stupid and pointless matter are extremely valid, concise and credible. You have perfectly summed up what I imagine the majority of the people across the world are thinking. This man needs to grow up,get a life, stop seeking publicity for himself and his group, and leave 16 year old alone. He clearly is trying to feed off of her fame and his comments are so pathetic, lame and infantile that he is doing himself and his organisation a disservice by continuing to perpetuate this story and milk it for all its worth. No-one is paying any attention to him as everyone thinks he is just a big puff of smelly wind with no substance at all. Well done to you WooHoo!

  4. Truth Says:

The apologists always come out to defend the racists and to blame the victims. Woohoo, you suck, you racist slimeball. Miley Cyrus lives by the public eye and therefore must be held to a higher standard that ordinary citizens because she has so much influence on people. Isn’t it interesting that in the photo the only person not making slanted eyes was the Asian young man — and it appears that his white “friends” were all making their faces without him realizing it, meaning they were doing it to make fun of him because he thought they were his friends. White scumbags need to stop doing evil; and when they do, they need to stop blaming someone else for their evil deeds already.
