Cyrus actually did pretty well. Both AI and Miley have to be pleased with her appearance. AI got a big ratings boost from her, Cyrus introduced herself to tens of millions of viewers globally that have not followed her career so far – as a personable and likable young lady now starting a new phase of her career as an adult entertainer.
As a mentor, she was worth it for the huge buck-up in confidence she gave to the two youngest contestants and her advice to several contestants on better connecting with fans was good. She isn't that great a singer, wasn't there to be a voice coach. But she sure is successful and if any of her magic is transferred to several contestants, it was worth doing. Her interactions also helped showcase the personal warmth of Casey, Lee, Siobhan, Crystal, and Aaron. (Lynche perhaps too, but he is constantly pushing his huggy-man thing as a "schtick".

I was surprised when Miley picked Casey and Siobhan for success. Not Casey, but Siobhan.
    Then I thought about it.
Miley through her 15 million record sales, sold out concerts, and mega TV stardom knows a great deal about marketability. So it is pretty obvious Casey's massive hunkitude and instrumental talent will make him a good candidate for success. But Siobhan? The female contestant that has the most vocal power, range. Originality, uniqueness, bold choices in songs…and face it…this girl is someone that draws the camera in. Nerd hot, IMO. Miley sees marketability with Siobhan. Magnus needs polishing, but she could go far. Crystal may be the better artist right now amongst the women, but she has 8 1/2 years more polishing done, than Magnus at 19 just turned 20.
