Mischa Barton was hospitalized on Wednesday night (July 15) after police were called to her West Hollywood home, a spokesperson for the Los Angeles Police Department has confirmed.
Officer April Harding tells Usmagazine, “We responded to her home last night on a medical issue. We assisted with it. She was removed from her home.”
Access Hollywood is quoting unnamed sources that claim the former star of The O.C. was placed under involuntary psychiatric hold, also known as a 5150, however, these details have not been confirmed a the time of writing.
Craig Schneider, Barton’s rep, says that she is now “okay and resting,” but adds that authorities were called to help protect the actress.
“Police were involved due to Ms. Barton’s celebrity status, to safely transfer her to medical treatment as per doctor’s orders,” he explained.
The 23-year-old was forced to skip the premiere of her new film Homecoming in New York on Thursday night, with director Morgan J. Freeman saying, “I along with everyone on the Homecoming team are saddened to hear that Mischa Barton will not be able to attend the film’s premiere tonight in New York. Her performance in ‘Homecoming’ is fantastic, and she will be missed at our premiere.”
