Us talk show host Montel Williams has apologized to reporters after he allegedly threatened an intern during an altercation at a hotel on Friday (November 30).
The usually calm host of the daytime talk show ‘Montel’, was in Savannah, Georgia, when he became irritated by a question from a Savannah Morning-News reporter, who asked, "Do you think pharmaceutical companies would be discouraged from research and development if their profits were restricted?"
Williams, who suffers from multiple sclerosis, was in town to promote a program that gives free prescription drugs to low-income people.
He responded, "I’m trying to figure out exactly why you are here and what the interview is about. I’m here as a patient advocate talking about the fact that medications available today are saving people’s lives, that’s what’s saving mine and after that (question), this interview is done."
When the group of reporters returned to the hotel later in the day for another story entirely, Williams picked out an intern, Courtney Scott, and approached her with his bodyguards.
Joseph Cosey, an employee of the newspaper, recalled that, "As we were preparing to film, Montel walked up with his bodyguard and got in Courtney Scott’s face, pointing his finger telling her, ‘Don’t look at me like that. Do you know who I am? I’m a big star, and I can look you up, find where you live and blow you up’ "
Williams sent a letter to Scott from his show’s executive producer saying "Regrettably I reacted childishly to the situation and for that I truly apologize to all concerned. I would like to invite Courtney and her family to appear on my show for a public apology."
