New Moon has debuted to mammoth numbers at the US box office, becoming the biggest midnight opening ever and, if it continues with these numbers, putting The Dark Knight‘s records in danger.
According to Exhibitor Relations, the Twilight sequel notched up $26.3 million at the box office from 3514 midnight screenings, beating Harry Potter and the Half-Blood Prince’s $22 million opening.
The Dark Knight holds the record for the top single day figures of $67 million and the 3-day record of $158 million, with Jeff Bock from ERC suggesting it’s title may be in trouble if the New Moon juggernaut continues at this pace.

I'm not surprised by this. I think I will wait a few weeks for all the hoopla to die down before I go see it.
