The stars of the upcoming ‘X-Files’ movie, David Duchovney and Gillian Anderson, appeared at Wondercon in San Francisco together with the television series‘ creator Chris Carter this past weekend to discuss the new movie.
The appearance of the trio sent fans into a tailspin at the annual comic book, science fiction and film convention, particularly when Carter previewed the new ‘X-Files’ trailer and revealed the release date: July 25, 2008.
Carter, Duchovny and Anderson, along with writer Frank Spotnitz, fielded questions from the audience, with one member asking, "Why is this movie worth the wait?"
"Because it will scare the pants off you," Carter responded. "Because you’ll see Mulder and Scully again in a whole new way. That’s why."
The new movie will be a stand-alone version of the hit television series, rather than linking itself back to the original, with Carter explaining, "When we did the first movie we had an ongoing TV series, so we had to be true to the series and the mythology arc. So, that movie functioned as sort of a big version of the television series. We didn’t have that problem this time. So, we have a chance to do what I would consider to be a really big screen stand-alone movie."
Carter gave away little in regards to the plot line of the new movie, except to say that "nobody’s ever really dead in ‘The X-Files," and that there are plans to make more Mulder and Scully adventures "right away".
