Mr. T Ad Removed Due To Homophobic Concerns

July 26th, 2008

A controversial ad for Snickers, with eighties icon Mr. T yelling at a speed walker to “walk like a real man” and “get some nuts”, has been pulled from international broadcast due to complaints that it was homophobic. See the ad for yourself by clicking ‘read more’.

Mars, makers of Snickers, released a statement on Thursday saying, “This ad is the second in a series of U.K. Snickers Ads featuring Mr. T which are meant to be fun and which have been positively received in the U.K. However, we understand that humor is highly subjective, and it is never our intention to cause offense. Accordingly, we have pulled the Mr. T speed walker ad globally.”

The Human Rights Campaign Foundation responded saying they applaud Mars for “taking swift and appropriate action.”
