Natasha McElhone’s Family Speaks About Husband’s Death

May 22nd, 2008

The family of British actress Natascha McElhone, star of the hit television series ‘Californication’, has spoken about the sudden death of her husband Martin Kelly on Tuesday (May 20).

McElhone, 37, is said to be in a state of shock following the news that her spouse, who is a top plastic surgeon, was found slumped on the doorstep of the couple’s London home.

He was discovered by a doctor friend shortly after 10pm on Tuesday night, and as news spread, several senior surgeons gathered in the accident and emergency department at Chelsea and Westminster Hospital where he was taken, but nothing could be done.

The actress, who is pregnant with her third child, was filming when told of her husband’s death. She immediately flew back to the UK with the couple’s two children, Theodore, eight, and Otis, five.

Scotland Yard said Kelly’s death was being treated as unexplained and a post-mortem examination would be held.

McElhone’s representative told E! Online there would be "no comment at this time", however, her stepfather Roy Greenslade has spoken about it, saying the news was “completely baffling”.

"It’s still a mystery about the death. It’s so unexpected. Such a fit, handsome, fighting fit young man of 42. So we are in a bit of a terrible state, to be honest,” he said.

“He was a truly magnificent man as a surgeon, as a father and as a husband. As well as being a brilliant doctor, he painted, he wrote his own music as well as being a great sportsman. He was just terrific and a true Renaissance man.”
