Neil Patrick Harris has said that Britney Spears‘ recent guest appearance on his television show ‘How I Met Your Mother’ was nothing more than "stunt casting", and that the pop singer won’t be joining the cast permanently.
Since her successful cameo on the show, rumors have swirled that producers of the comedy were attempting to lure Spears back to the show as a recurring character.
"[They're] totally unfounded rumors," Harris told MTV News, despite a spokeswoman for the show issuing a ‘no comment’ in response.
He also told The Associated Press, "I’m in the minority that our show does not need stunt casting in order to succeed."
"I worry that if they start `Will and Grace’-ing us too much, that the show will suffer. And we’re all really proud of the content of the show," Harris explained.
"I mean, viewership is not our game. It’s the network and the studio’s game, you know. It’s the promotion department’s game."
Spears’ role as a crazy receptionist garned the show it’s highest ever ratings and earned the singer praise, however, Harris says that starring in a weekly comedy show takes alot of effort.
"You do it one week, it’s fine, but to do it a lot of weeks is hard," he said. "She’s not going to be a regular on our show."
