New Star Trek Movie Delayed

February 15th, 2008

The release of the new big-screen version of cult television and movie franchise ‘Star Trek’ has been pushed back by over five months, to avoid the film’s opening clashing with other significant movie releases.

Helmed by ‘Cloverfield’ and ‘Lost’ creator JJ Abrahms, the revamped ‘Star Trek’ was due to hit cinema’s on December 25 this year, but will now debut on May 8 2009.

Paramount spokesman Michael Vollman sadi that the delay has been caused "because it [the film] has so much box office potential", which would be better capatilised on with a northern summer release.

"It does not need any script tweaks. They’re two-thirds of the way through shooting, and we would have delivered a great movie at Christmas," Vollman said.

‘Star Trek’ stars Leonard Nimoy, Eric Bana, Winona Ryder, Simon Pegg and ‘House’ star Jennifer Morrison’.
