Nic Cage’s Financial Troubles Worsen: Sued By Ex For $13m

December 10th, 2009

Nicolas Cage ParamountNicolas Cage’s financial troubles continue to worsen; as well as owing US$6.3 million in back taxes, the actor now has to contend with the news that he’s being sued by his ex for $US13 million!

Nicolas Cage ParamountChristina Fulton, who is the mother of Cage’s 18-year-old son Weston, says in her lawsuit that in 2001, Cage bought a Los Angeles home for her and their son to live in. She claims that he promised to sign the property over to her name.

Cage is currently offloading many of his assets, including properties and yachts, to pay his outstanding tax debt – and Fulton says only learnt that she didn’t own her home when Cage served her a 60-day notice to vacate.

Now, Fulton is demanding the whopping payment as compensation for “mental, physical and emotional abuse”.

Cage’s lawyer, Martin Singer, has dismissed the legal action as “ridiculous”.

Fulton also says that she is in debt to the Internal Revenue Service (IRS) to the tune of US$1 million, and she owes US$250,000 in credit card debt, which she claims her ex told her he would pay on her behalf.

“This lawsuit is ridiculous and absurd,” Singer told reporters.

“Nicolas has given her approximately US$3 million every year for many years, even though he was only obligated to pay her $US6,000-a-month in child support. We expect this lawsuit to be promptly thrown out.”

The National Treasure actor claims his current financial difficulties are the result of a former accountant’s negligence, a claim which the accountant refutes: instead, he blames the situation on the actor’s “compulsive, self-destructive spending”.

Backing up the accountant’s claims are some of Cage’s more extravagent purchases, including a 67-million-year-old dinosaur skull (US$276,000), a US$495,000 Lamborghini, a jet, two yachts, three castles, two islands in the Bahamas and a number of mansions.
