Actor Nicolas Cage has fired back at Kathleen Turner after the veteran actress released her memoir, in which she alleges that Cage was twice arrested for drunk driving and once stole a dog, during their time filming ‘Peggy Sue Got Married’ in 1986.
Turner claims in her book, ‘Send Yourself Roses’, that Cage caused "so many problems" while under the direction of his uncle and legendary film director, Francis Ford Coppola.
"He was arrested twice for drunk driving and, I think once for stealing a dog. He’d come across a Chihuahua he liked and stuck it in his jacket," she says.
Cage has responded via the New York Post’s Page Six column, saying, "While I recall Kathleen Turner being a great lady and wonderful actress, the credibility of her biography and her memory is at stake… Fact credibility should have been excerised on [her] part."
Cage has also released a statement to further clarify Turner’s comments saying:
"I have never been arrested for anything in my life, nor have I stolen a dog. I am reaching out to my fans — many of whom are children — so they know that I do not condone drunk driving or theft. The reason why you’ve never seen a mug shot of me is because it does not exist."
