Nicole Richie and Joel Madden are waiting until the birth of their second child to find out what it’s sex is, as they find the wait “exciting.”

“We don’t know what the sex is,” Madden told PEOPLE Friday (June 19). “We waited on the first one and it was such an awesome experience that we can’t wait to see what the next one is. It’s exciting to wait it out.”

Madden also says that things are more low key this time around saying, “It’s a lot easier.  You’ve already been through it and it’s not as intense and dramatic. We’re a little more relaxed. It’s actually kind of nice.”
