Nicole Richie has been sentenced on Friday (July 27) to 96 hours jail after pleading guilty to charges of driving under the influence of drugs, following her arrest in December 2006.
Richie, 25, was arrested after the Californian Highway Patrol found her parked in a car-pool lane, after witnesses reported seeing her Mercedes driving down the wrong way of a Los Angeles highway. The socialite admitted to authorities that she’d been smoking marijuana and had taken a prescription painkiller.
‘The Simple Life’ star, who was given six hours credit for time already served, will serve a further 90 hours, was fined $US2,048, given three years probation, and ordered to enroll in and complete a drug and alcohol program by February 20, 2008.
Superior Court Commissioner Steven Lubell handed down the sentencing telling Richie, "You are not to drive with any measurable amount of alcohol or drugs in your system," and that she had until September 28 to serve her time in either a city or county jail.
