Oscar Fashion Roundup: Red Carpet Heaven

February 23rd, 2009

I love the Oscar Red Carpet to the point that I’ve been counting down the days to see what some of the best in the industry have chosen to wear. Just like the Academy Award show, there are tears, laughter and gasps of ‘Oh my!’ as I watch celebrities flit down the red carpet in their chosen designer gown. Here are some of the highlights – and lowlights!

This year was no exception, with some of the most glamourous gowns on display. Kudos goes to Evan Rachel Wood for pulling off a skin coloured Elle Saab dress, not at all an easy feat. I loved Sarah Jessica Parkers’ Dior Haute Couture dress that made me green with envy and young Miley Cyrus was pulling some serious fashion cred in her elegant Zhuair Murad ball gown.

But while we all can’t get it right, there were those that got it terribly wrong. This year’s red carpet had some wearing what seemed to be bad formal dresses.  Jessica Biel hid her stunning figure in a Prada dress that did nothing for her shape, Heidi Klum who usually gets it right struggled in her red Roland Mouret gown that just didn’t seem to sit well, and Amanda Seyfried looked like she was being attacked by too much fabric in her Valentino gown.

And the Award goes to….

Best Dressed: Sarah Jessica Parker in Dior Haute Couture

Great sense of colour: Freida Pinto in John Galliano

Worst Dress: Amanda Seyfried

Worst Sense of Colour: Natalie Portman in her bubble gum pink Rodarte dress

Hot Trend: Belts on dresses are a great way to add shape to your silhouette while accessorizing your dress – seen on the likes of Marion Cotillard in Dior Haute Couture, Miley Cyrus in Zuhair Murad, Virginia Madsen in Kevan Hall and Sarah Jessica Parker in Dior Haute Couture.
