Paris Hilton Punks The Paparazzi With Guru

March 6th, 2008

Paris Hilton was photographed recently spending time with a ‘guru’ – who publicly blessed the socialite at one of Los Angeles’ paparazzi hotspots – however, the ‘guru’ turned out to be an actor with the whole scene being staged for a new Ashton Kutcher show called ‘Pop Fiction’ on the E! television network.

The 27-year-old star of the recent box-office failure ‘The Hottie or the Nottie’, stopped by the Bodhi Tree Bookstore to buy some self-help books, and was spotted reading ‘The Path of the Painted Shamen’ while in the company of her spiritual guide, who conveniently carried his own book – cover out – while the paparazzi flashed away.

The story made headlines on gossip websites everywhere, including the E! channel’s own site, with TMZ.com revealing the guru’s name to be Maxie Santillan, an actor who has starred in a host of Hollywood productions including ‘My Name Is Earl’ and ‘Pirates of the Caribbean’.

The new show from Kutcher and his ‘Punk’d’ co-creator Jason Goldberg sees celebrities turning the tables on the paparazzi and the media.

"We live in a culture that’s driven by media and obsessed with celebrity, to the point where they don’t have private lives anymore," Goldberg explains to USA Today.  "Two people going out to eat turns into ‘They’re engaged.’ It’s a feeding frenzy."

"We’re having fun, but we want to say to people, Can you really believe everything you read and see?"
