Paula Abdul has decided to leave her judging post on American Idol after eight seasons on the hit show, making the announcement via Twitter on Tuesday evening (August 4).
Speculation that Abdul was leaving the singing show has been rife for weeks, with some rumors suggesting she may make the move to So You Think You Can Dance.
“With sadness in my heart, I’ve decided not to return to Idol,” the 47-year-old wrote on Twitter. “I’ll miss nurturing all the new talent, but most of all I’ll miss nurturing all the new talent, but most of all being a part of a show that I helped from day 1 become an international phenomenon.”
The Fox network issued the following statement regarding her departure:
“Paula Abdul has been an important part of the American Idol family over the last eight seasons and we are saddened that she has decided not to return to the show. While Paula will not be continuing with us, she’s a tremendous talent and we wish her the best.”
