What’s In A Name? Plenty, Says Soon-To-Be Portia DeGeneres

Portia de Rossi has celebrated the reversal of Prop 8 by filing a petition with the Los Angeles County Superior Court, to legally take on wife Ellen DeGeneres’ surname and become Portia DeGeneres.
DeGeneres and de Rossi tied the knot back in August of 2008, but the legality of their marriage was put into question when Prop 8 was passed just months later.
E! Online has obtained a copy of the petition, which can be viewed here.
Along with the paperwork requesting the name swap, de Rossi also filed a number of documents seeking to redact (delete) the couple’s home address on the supporting paperwork, citing concerns that the celebrity duo’s personal safety would be at risk.
A hearing on the name swap has been set for September 23.
