With the late night talk show’s going back to work on Wednesday night (January 2) in the US, despite the ongoing Writer’s Strike, Presidential Candidate Mike Huckabee has defended his decision to appear on ‘The Tonight Show with Jay Leno’ which has returned without it’s writers.

The battle of the late night show’s has begun again after two months off the air, with Leno, Conan O’Brien and Jimmy Kimmel all returning without their striking writers, and a bearded David Letterman back with his writing staff after negotiating a deal to have them return.

All hosts referenced the strike in their first show back, with Leno joking that it "has alreadly cost the town over half a billion dollars… or as Paul McCartney calls that, ‘A divorce.’"

Huckabee’s representative released a statement prior to his appearance on the talk show explaining his decision:

"Governor Huckabee is excited to join Jay Leno when the "Tonight Show" returns to live broadcasting later this evening. The Governor would only agree to join Jay, an active member of the Writer’s Guild, for the taping after he was assured that no replacement writers were being used in the show’s production. Governor Huckabee believes that the writers deserve to be fairly compensated for the sale of their work.

"Governor Huckabee is glad that Jay Leno was able to put his 160 employees back to work and he strongly encourages both sides of the current labor dispute to work diligently toward an equitable solution for all parties involved."
