In a week that saw comedian Joan Rivers call him a “f*cking sh*t” live on British television, Russell Crowe has now been immortalized in a new song called ‘The Night I Punched Russell Crowe’ – and his rep is not amused.
Los Angeles indie band Gaelic Storm, most noted for featuring in the movie ‘Titanic’, have turned an incident involving the ‘American Gangster’ star into a catchy little number.
Reliving the night, band member Patrick Murphy reveals, “I was managing an Irish bar in LA. He drank there. I was on first name terms with him. But one day he came in and lit up a cigarette. I asked him nicely to put it out. You weren’t allowed to smoke; he knew that.”

It’s pathetic how many people are using Russell Crowe’s name to get some publicity for themselves lately.

Russell Crowe is one of my favorite actors and I am shocked that Joan Rivers and the Gaelic Storm would stoop so low as to say this kind of garbage about a fine young man. I’m so sorry to see all of this press about it. The band is looking for any kind of publicity and Joan Rivers has proven once again that she has no class and is obviously no lady! They both should publicly apologize to Mr. Crowe.

It is so plain to see. Those individuals who dig for dirt around Russell Crowe are simply jealous of the fact that he excells in his acting, and some people hate his kind of perfection it makes them mad and the only thing they can do is to hang on to his name and make money from this. Somehow I think it’s all water off a duck’s back to a man of his stature. I’ve read about how he looks at his work with a truly working class attitude; cries when a farm animal or pet dies;and he admits himself that he detests fame. Russell Crowe is an original. Leave him be.

This is one band that I promise you won’t find in MY FRIENDS on My Space! The song is disgusting!

Oh, please people. Don’t be so uptight. I love Russell but the song is funny. The guy punched him and ran away! Lighten up.

Like it or not, Luminella, the song is a true story and just happens to be coming out at the same time as Joan Rivers’ rant. It’s really very simple and all in good fun.

It’s all pretty funny. And I heard it was indeed an actual event several years ago. I like Russell Crowe, but LIGHTEN UP people. yikes! I am Maximus!

If you didn’t have an asshole the size of a dime, you probably wouldn’t be so uptight to listen to the whole song. Hell even if this never happened, its a catchy song. IF I punched Russel Crowe at 5’2′ I just might write a song about it. Hell he’s Maximus for christ sake, is this thing really bothering him, or his PR rep?
But, lets face the truth, I have no musical talent, so I’ll leave the music to Gaelic Storm. As for the humor, loosen up a little, let some shit out. mmmKay… this means you Keith Suzanne and Layne.
Eat some fiber, don’t be so uptight. Crazy how people defend their movie idol, but cant defend the true talent underneath: like music, writing, directing, and good humor. If you ask me, saying an actor is good just states that they are a convincing liar.

It’s a song by a band. Who cares if it happend or not, it’s just a good, funny song. Russell Crowe probably doesn’t give a shit! Why should you? Grow up.

Another song on the same album: Don't Let The Truth Get In the Way (of a Good Story).

Number one, it's an Irish Band, a song about a brawl is in the same fine tradition (see "Red Haired Girl" about someone winning a fight and winning the woman). Second, someone can be an excellent actor AND not have a nice personality (or any other trait), just because the have one talent doesn't mean that they immediately have the glow of perfection in all the other areas of their life (and, conversely, they may have other talents that we don't know about). Third, Gaelic Storm doesn't need publicity as such, they were in a little "250 million dollar music video" called The Titanic, which made their career. In Chicago, they typically sell out House of Blues. Fourth, it is a funny song and, in a sense, the singer is making fun of himself for running away….

I don't think they need the publicity. Also the lead singer isn't pressing charges and is flattering Crowe's overbearing egotistical sense of manliness. Quite frankly Russell needs to stop being such a prick and buy the man a beer.

I live in Wauwatosa and for as many years as I can remember Gaelic Storm has been giving free concerts before performing at Irish Fest in downtown Milwaukee. This group rocks, the song is funny, and Crowe is an excellent actor. Brawling is a part of being Irish/Scottish, and as well a part of Crowe's culture. I think we should bury the hatchet and get them together.

Russel Crowe is a woman and why do you care if people make fun of him? People get made fun of all of the time so why dont you go back to Russia you communist bastard. Go Irish!

Right!! You know everything that ever happened to Russell Crowe? Is he your boyfriend or something? Get a clue.

I agree with ya, Whip. In fact Gaelic Storm should invite him to sing on stage with them and then they can brawl for the audience. Could be a great pay per view event.

Russell Crowe is a child with a minor talent in acting…..

GROW UP …It is just a song…
