Punching Russell Crowe The Subject Of New Song

June 20th, 2008

In a week that saw comedian Joan Rivers call him a “f*cking sh*t” live on British television, Russell Crowe has now been immortalized in a new song called ‘The Night I Punched Russell Crowe’ - and his rep is not amused.

Los Angeles indie band Gaelic Storm, most noted for featuring in the movie ‘Titanic’, have turned an incident involving the ‘American Gangster’ star into a catchy little number.

Reliving the night, band member Patrick Murphy reveals, “I was managing an Irish bar in LA. He drank there. I was on first name terms with him. But one day he came in and lit up a cigarette. I asked him nicely to put it out. You weren’t allowed to smoke; he knew that.”

Murphy continues, “The next I knew a brawl broke out and I gave him my best shot - right on the nose. I am ashamed to say I ran for my life.”
Crowe’s representative, Alan Nierob, informed the New York Post’s Page Six that the incident never happened and that, “I don’t know if he [Crowe] knows anything about it. Who cares?”

  1. Layne Says:

It’s pathetic how many people are using Russell Crowe’s name to get some publicity for themselves lately.

  2. Suzanne Says:

Russell Crowe is one of my favorite actors and I am shocked that Joan Rivers and the Gaelic Storm would stoop so low as to say this kind of garbage about a fine young man. I’m so sorry to see all of this press about it. The band is looking for any kind of publicity and Joan Rivers has proven once again that she has no class and is obviously no lady! They both should publicly apologize to Mr. Crowe.

  3. keith Says:

It is so plain to see. Those individuals who dig for dirt around Russell Crowe are simply jealous of the fact that he excells in his acting, and some people hate his kind of perfection it makes them mad and the only thing they can do is to hang on to his name and make money from this. Somehow I think it’s all water off a duck’s back to a man of his stature. I’ve read about how he looks at his work with a truly working class attitude; cries when a farm animal or pet dies;and he admits himself that he detests fame. Russell Crowe is an original. Leave him be.

  4. Luminella Says:

This is one band that I promise you won’t find in MY FRIENDS on My Space! The song is disgusting!

  5. George Says:

Oh, please people. Don’t be so uptight. I love Russell but the song is funny. The guy punched him and ran away! Lighten up.

  6. MEM Says:

Like it or not, Luminella, the song is a true story and just happens to be coming out at the same time as Joan Rivers’ rant. It’s really very simple and all in good fun.

  7. mattcee Says:

It’s all pretty funny. And I heard it was indeed an actual event several years ago. I like Russell Crowe, but LIGHTEN UP people. yikes! I am Maximus!

  8. gimme a pint Says:

If you didn’t have an asshole the size of a dime, you probably wouldn’t be so uptight to listen to the whole song. Hell even if this never happened, its a catchy song. IF I punched Russel Crowe at 5′2′ I just might write a song about it. Hell he’s Maximus for christ sake, is this thing really bothering him, or his PR rep?

But, lets face the truth, I have no musical talent, so I’ll leave the music to Gaelic Storm. As for the humor, loosen up a little, let some shit out. mmmKay… this means you Keith Suzanne and Layne.

Eat some fiber, don’t be so uptight. Crazy how people defend their movie idol, but cant defend the true talent underneath: like music, writing, directing, and good humor. If you ask me, saying an actor is good just states that they are a convincing liar.
