Ridley Scott’s update of Robin Hood, starring Australian actors Russell Crowe and Cate Blanchett, has been announced as the opening film of the 63rd Festival de Cannes.

The new blockbuster, which also features William Hurt, Max Von Sydow and Lea Sevdoux, will get it’s first screening on Wednesday May 12 ahead of it’s worldwide opening on May 14.

Festival organizers stated that Robin Hood is “to be screened out of competition” of the prestigious film festival.
