Run DMC Movie In The Works

January 30th, 2009

Following the success of hip-hop biopics like Eminem’s ’8 Mile’, 50 Cent’s ‘Get Rich or Die Trying’, and the new ‘Notorious’ flick, about the life of slain rapper The Notorious B.I.G., a new movie following the rise of Run DMC is in the works.

The hip-hop group exploded on the international music scene in the eighties with Joseph ‘Run’ Simmons, Darryl ‘DMC’ McDaniels and the late Jason ‘Jam Master Jay’ Mizell responsible for the hits ‘Walk This Way’, ‘It’s Tricky’, ‘My Adidas’ and more.

Dallas Jackson, the urban president of Davis Entertainment, recently optioned the authorized biography of Run DMC telling THR, “It’s an extraordinary rags-to-riches journey that I’m eager to bring to the screen.  And I’m hoping to have Run, DMC and Russell Simmons’ involvement.

“This will be a big movie about the 1980s hip-hop movement that took over the world.”

Scriptwriter Cheo Hodair Coker, who penned ‘Notorious’, has signed on to write the screenplay for the new movie.
