Sheryl Crow: Toilet Claims Embarrassing

January 27th, 2008

Sheryl Crow has revealed in an interview that a wild rumor about her using only one square of toilet paper per visit was "part of a comic routine" and was taken out of context when the media jumped on the story last year.

Crow had suggested using "only one square per restroom visit, except, of course, on those pesky occasions where two to three could be required".

She explains that the now-infamous quote was uttered during an eco-awareness campaign that the singer was part of during 2007.

"They took something that was part of a comic routine we were doing on the Global Warming college tour, and set it up as it if was something that I believed in, to embarrass me," Crow explains.

"It was really embarrassing to watch."

Discussing the amount of coverage the quote received from the world press Crow says, "It was on every news channel as if it was news.  It was everywhere.  That’s when I want to shake people and say, ‘You’ve got to wake up.  You watch the news and you believe this stuff?’"
