Sienna Miller: Denies Cheating With Sean Penn

January 19th, 2008

A report in a New York newspaper has claimed that Sienna Miller may have been responsible for the break-up of Sean Penn and Robin Wright Penn, prompting Miller’s lawyers to send a letter to the columnist’s stating that the article is "false, and is highly defamatory", and stating that Miller is pursuing "legal remedies".

The article, which appeared in the Rush & Molloy column in the New York Daily News, states that Miller "may not have been a good influence" when it came to the break up of the Penn’s 20-year marriage.

The story quotes an unnamed source who claims to have seen Miller and Sean Penn together at a party in a New York hotel, with the source saying, "Sienna was sitting on Sean’s lap. She was dressed very sexily. She had her arm around his neck."

A letter from Miller’s lawyer’s, Lavely & Singer, which was obtained by TMZ.com, states that, "The article is false, and is highly defamatory. My client intends to pursue her legal remedies against all those responsible in the event that New York Daily News continues to publish such outrageous false stories about her.

"The gist of the Article and its defamatory headlines is that Ms. Miller is responsible for breaking up the marriage of Sean Penn and Robin Wright Penn. This is false. The truth is that Ms. Miller is close friends with both Robin and Sean, and was not responsible for the couple’s split."

The letter also states that Miller’s representative, Leslie Sloane Zelnick, informed the columnists of the facts prior to the article’s publication, however, they decided to run the article regardless.

The letter also states that the newspaper is to blame for all reproduced versions of the article that were picked up by other gossip websites, and that "the Daily News and Rush & Molloy would be held responsible for the damages arising from it’s repetiton".

Lavely and Singer have requested a retraction of the article and states, "My client will not hesitate to file suit when necessary to protect her rights… You proceed at your peril."
