Silverman Scathing of Britney Spears’ MTV Awards Comeback

Four years since releasing her last album, Britney Spears is gearing up to trade the tabloid glare for the musical spotlight – however her first foray back on stage has not been well-received.
Spears has appeared in more than her fair share of the tabloids recently, with breakdowns, divorce, child-rearing issues and bad hair days keeping her in the headlines.
MTV was prepared to help the former pop princess re-launch, giving her the coveted opening slot at the MTV Video Music Awards (VMA), held in Las Vegas on Sunday (September 9), to perform her new single, ‘Gimme More.’
Spears’ lacklustre performance disappointed critics and fans alike – but provided MTV VMA host Sarah Silverman with fodder for her opening monologue, directly following Spears’ performance.
"Was that incredible?" Silverman began.
"She is amazing. I mean, she is 25 years old and she’s already accomplished everything she’s going to accomplish in her life.
"It’s weird to think that just a few years ago on this very show, she was this, like, sweet innocent little girl in slutty clothes writhing around with a python. That’s not nice…calling Madonna a python."
The comedian went on to talk about Britney’s two children, stating, "Oh my god, they are the most adorable mistakes you will ever see. They are as cute as the hairless vagina they came out of."

First, you all KNOW that Britney sucked last night, so cut the crap. She looked flabby, she was barely lip-syncing well (hard to believe that’s even possible) and her dance moves were atrocious. I personally think if it wasn’t so terrible, None of you would be comming to her defense after Sarah roasted her; you certainly had no problem when she skewered Paris ten feet away from her before she was set to go to prison.

I think all of these people judging her need to really grow up. Condsidering the fact that she has had 2 kids an married an asshole, I would say she looked pretty damn good, and until you’ve tried to live the life of Britney Spears, then I feel that no one has a right to say anything.

i am not sure if any of you Sarah fans noticed but no one was laughing at her jokes and her performance was just as awkward as Britney’s was–she was was obviously trying to pull at anything she could get and Britney was an easy target. However, I think Sarah went too far, even for her mediocre status and wallowing career, I think everyone who saw Britney’s performance last night felt upset or sad that Britney is doing this to herself. It’s no longer funny–it’s just really sad and she obviously needs help. I don’t expect someone like Sarah (who’s never had popularity even close to that of Britney) to understand what it’s like to be used by the media and American consumerist machine. It destroys you. I don’t understand how anyone writing mean things about any celebrity can feel as though they are correct or just because we don’t know them and most likely never will. It’s so easy for us to sit back and just say whatever the fuck we feel like about these people because of who they are and because they are supposedly “asking for it by being a celebrity”. I am sure Britney is hurting and is pretty ashamed of her own performace just because she doesn’t let on about it doesn’t mean she doesn’t have feelings. She can’t trust anyone in her life–not her “friends”, mother, record label….

There are multiple ways to look at the VMA’s as well as hollywood’s young starlets. On one hand you can say, well if you don’t want the whole world to talk then perhaps you should have chosen a less obvious profession. One the other hand I feel sorry for many of these girls. I think that Sarah Silverman was out of line. Britney looked scared, and bewildered, confused, and insecure last night. It is easy to look at Britney, and Lyndsey and judge them from a far when you don’t even know who they are. Hopefully no one will show Perez Hilton’s fat ass the same courtesy that he shows other people because that would probably be hurtful. It is funny though Perez making a comment about Britney not being in shape. For having two kids so close together she still looks better then him. I just think the world should leave these girls alone. They are PEOPLE…. real people… who hurt, cry, and bleed just like everyone else.

Stop dwelling on the fact one person called her fat. Nobody else did or thinks she is. The problem was the embarrassment she cause Jive Record, Diddy, JT, MTV. They all stood up for her and gave her a chance. Britney was not scared she never has been. The girl was on drugs. She can’t be a role model for anyone until she cleans up her act. I feel sorry for her kids. I think this is what Kevin needs to take her kids away. She is not ashamed of her performace because she can’t even remember last night. And about her ex being an asshole. Maybe its not the american standard of fat, after all we have more overweight people than any other country, but her body fat is obviously in the overweight area, she has enough money to higher a personal trainer and if she would focus more of working out than drinking till 8 in the morning, if you have the type of body she has right now your gonna get critized if your wearing an outfit that not even a stripper with get caugh it, and not being in the shape you need to be in to put on such a performance is unprofessional in itself besides the fact that she bombed everything else.

Britney did herself no favors performing, and needs to go sort herself out and try being a professional singer again in a year or so. She is in no state to perform her profession currently.
However Silverman was pretty harsh and it was a little awkward to watch too, but the difference is I doubt she cares what people think of her performance. She knew that, irregardless of the direct audience’s reaction, who are just celebrity poodles and would be offended anyway, her public exposure will definitely be greater.

Go back, watch the video, and look at the poor girl’s face. She looked absolutely terrified. People are just being cruel towards her. You are right life is what you make it, and until you walk one day in that young woman’s shoes how dare judge them or anyone else for that matter. I also think that it is outrageous to speculate that she was on drugs. The only way you would know for sure is if you were there and saw her doing them. So stick to the facts, or don’t say anything.

Stick to the facts she was on drugs. I work with kids on drug so I know what to look for.She does drugs just like all the others. When you work with drug addicted teens you come and tell me to stick to the facts. They are the facts Afton. And yes she was terrified because she realized she was stoned and not ready for this. I am not a Britney hater but she needs help. You sticking up for her will not help her. By the way go back and watch the video when everyone said she was drunk I didn’t because I know her shoe broke and thats why she walked her steps. Does not change the fact she is doing drugs and yes I know she is.
