February 27th, 2009

The Fox network has renewed ‘The Simpsons’ for another two seasons, making the the cartoon family the longest running prime-time show in television history.

Despite beating the on-air record of 20 years set by ‘Gunsmoke’, ‘The Simpsons’ still falls shy of the 635 episodes of the western series that were broadcast.

Speaking to CNN, ‘The Simpsons’ creator Matt Groening sees no end in site for the four fingered family.

“I’ll be surprised if we close up anytime soon,” he says.  “I don’t see it. The popularity of the show all over the world continues and it is gratifying, and the show’s still fun to do. That’s always been my ultimate deciding factor: Is it still fun? And it is. … I get to go in and listen to these brilliant actors make funny lines written by geniuses even funnier. It’s a totally entertaining experience from my point of view — in the middle of it.”
