Since announcing the end of their "World Tour" on February 1, The Spice Girls have been inundated by fans on their website and MySpace pages, who have angrily responded to the band’s tour cancellations in Australia, China, South Africa and Argentina – forcing the girls to offer an apology.
Due to the "phenomenal demand for tickets in the UK and the US", the girls kept extending their run in these regions, failing to allow time for fans in other parts of the world who were keen to see the reformed five-piece in action.
One fan wrote on Mel C’s MySpace that he feels "used by the Spice Girls. I have been a fan since [their first single] ‘Wannabe’. [I] guess the fans don’t matter at all".
Another wrote, "Wasn’t this tour about a last celebration? Wasn’t it a lthank you to all your fans?… Not only did you snub Australia during the height of the Spice Girls… but now you’ve snubbed us again."
The girls have left a video message to all of their fans on their official website apologizing for the cancellation, with Mel C saying, "There’s been alot of rubbish in the media over the past couple of days, so we just wanted you to hear it from the horses mouth. We’re very sorry we’ve not been able to get to all the places we really, really wanted to get to."
Geri Halliwell chimes in, "The tour’s gone actually longer than we anticipated. We thought we were going to go with one gig and then we planned going to the end of January and then we extended it so we have gone on longer [than expected]."
According to the statement, the girls must "return to normal family life and the kids go back to school", but they are reviewing their options and don’t know "what the future might bring".
