One of the stars of MTV’s scripted reality show ‘The Hills’, Lauren Conrad, has been forced to back peddle twice in the space of a few days, over comments she made in an interview with a US tabloid magazine.
Conrad was interviewed by US Magazine about the upcoming season of the show, and was asked about her friendships with her reality co-stars, Audrina Partridge and Brody Jenner.
"At this point, I have to question every person that wants to have a relationship with me, whether it’s a friendship or a romantic relationship," Conrad said.
"Audrina has to remind me that she’s not someone who’s going to betray me."
Conrad then clarified the comments on her MySpace page, claiming that her quotes were taken out of context.
"I recently did an interview to talk about the show coming back on and what everyone had to look forward to. Unfortunately it was turned into yet another "poor me" story. The article itself is a nice one but it follows headlines that, in no way, represent my words or feelings," she wrote.
"I do not feel betrayed by Audrina or Brody. I love them both and said nothing to contradict this. I understand that headlines sell magazines, but I value my friendships above magazine sales any day."
Now, the 22-year-old has back-peddled to ensure she does not upset the magazine that gives her a great deal of publicity.
She released a statement clearing up any misgivings saying, "It was never my intention to criticize Us Weekly as I have a great relationship with them. My statement was only meant to support and stand by my friends."
