T.I. Going To Jail For One Year & One Day

March 28th, 2009

T.I. was sentenced to one year and one day in prison on Friday (March 27) for felony weapons charges that stemmed from his arrest in October 2007. Watch his press conference above and read more about his charges and what the Judge said after the jump.

The rapper was told by Judge Pannell, “I’m resistant to the lockup mentality.  I hope this sentencing leads to other experiments that will protect the community and show a respect for the law.”

T.I., born Clifford Harris, must report to jail within the next six to eight weeks, but will not enter a facility before May 19 due to agreed-upon commitments, MTV reports.

Part of his “experimental” plea deal involved completing 1000 hours of community service – of which he’s racked up 1030 hours – and a further 500 hours when he’s released and paid a $100,000 fine that he would only be sentenced to a year and a day in jail.

Additionally, when his prison time is completed, Harris will be financially audited, must undergo drug counseling, random searches, DNA testing, will have a curfew, a court appointed supervisor, travel restrictions, must complete the remainder of his one-year home-confinement and will not be permitted to own firearms.
