Timbaland Suing Australian Promoter Over Canceled Concerts

September 12th, 2008

Timbaland is suing an Australian tour promoter following the last minute cancellation of his show’s down under earlier this year.

The rapper-producer has launched a suit against Showtime Touring Group for unspecified damages, stating he wants to “set the record straight” about disappointing his Aussie fans.

According to the 18 page document, Timbaland was to be paid $A1.26 million for five shows of no longer than an hour each, with the first tour dates being postponed, “to permit Showtime to get its act together.”

The lawsuit adds, “Showtime, however, was still unable to comply with its basic contractual obligations, including failing to pay the guaranteed due under the contract and failing to provide the required production elements for the tour.

“As a result, on the eve of Timberland’s first scheduled appearance, Showtime announced the official cancellation of the tour, disappointing hundreds of thousands of ticket-holding fans and subjecting Timbaland to considerable backlash in the Australian press, which falsely reported that the cancellation was due to Timbaland’s wedding and honeymoon.”

A trial date will be set and a summons has been issued to Showtime according to local media.
