Tom Cruise made a surprise appearance at the roast of US ‘Today’ show host Matt Lauer on Friday (October 24), burying the hatchet following their long-running feud.
Their now-famous dispute occurred during a 2005 interview to promote the movie ‘War of the Worlds’, when the discussion turned to Cruise’s opinion on psychiatry and post-partum depression.
On Friday, at New York’s Friars Club, Cruise took the podium saying that he and Katie Holmes wake up to Lauer’s morning show everyday, “only because we had the channel on NBC before we fell asleep.”
Cruise presented fake slides of the two of them hanging out saying, “Believe it or not, Matt and I are friends. Some of you may find that hard to believe,” adding, “We go on vacation together” and “we talk on the phone, sometimes four times a day.”
The actor also suggested it was Lauer who prompted hisOprah couch-jumping moment, saying the ‘Today’ host told him to do it.
“Tom, Tom, don’t be glib, you’re in love,” Cruise joked. “Be inspiring, go crazy. Trust me. Trust me. People will love you for it.”
Before leaving the stage, Cruise finished with, “Lose my number, you glib putz,” with Lauer responding, “Tom, can you stay? We can get [you] a booster seat.”
