Uncle Kracker’s Sex Charge Denial

August 18th, 2007

Uncle Kracker, singer of the hit single ‘Follow Me’ from 2000, was arrested for a second-degree forcible sex offense in North Carolina on Friday (August 17).

Kracker, who’s real name is Matthew Shafer, was arrested by police at 4:45am at an Embassy Suites hotel, with authorities saying a 26-year-old woman alleges the incident happened at the Ess Lounge nightclub in Raleigh.

The former disc jockey for Kid Rock was taken to Wake County Jail, according to police spokesman Jim Sughrue, where he was released early Friday afternoon after his bond was reduced from $US5 million to $US75,000 by a district court judge.

Upon his release, Shafer issued the following statement to People:

"It’s regrettable that someone would make this kind of allegation, not only because it’s not the kind of thing I’d do, as the father of two girls, it’s the kind of thing that I wouldn’t stand for."
