Usher: Album Leaks Are Not Me

February 17th, 2008

Several new Usher songs have popped up on the internet in recent weeksprompting the singer to release a public statement denying that the leaks are coming from his camp and saying that "[doesn't] know what’s going on".

The singer is due to release his first new album in four years some time this year, although no official release date has been set yet by his record company.

Of the recent spattering of song leaks, the 27-year-old singer joked to MTV News, "It’s an internal conspiracy".

"I don’t know what’s going on with all these records that have been leaked," he said. "It ain’t been me dog."

One of the songs that has found its way to radio is ‘Love In This Club’ produced by Polow Da Don, who has confessed to leaking the song.

"I actually leaked it," he admitted to MTV"I told him when I saw him that I had to put my relationship on the line."

Polow Da Don said he knew he had been found out when Usher called him about the leak, but he was unapologetic; "Everything has to be set up on their end," he said"A video should be in place with an artist like that as soon as it drops. Those are the things you risk, but it’s working out beautifully. Flex is playing it, DJ Clue, DJ Khaled, Greg Street. Girls love it."

The singer is confident that despite the leaks and the recent upheavals in his personal life – in 2007 he got married, became a father for the first time, and grieved the loss of his own father – the album will be a strong follow up to his 2004 album, ‘Confessions’, which has sold more than 13 million copies worldwide to date.

"I will tell you, look out for this album. It’s an evolution," he said.

"As you know, this has been a very tumultuous year for me, so I have a lot of great stories to tell. But more than that, as far as music and the contribution I wanna make, I wanna make sure it’s very wide. You’re gonna get a great variety on this album, and I promise to make the wait worthwhile. I been looking around like, ‘Man, I better get back on my A game‘."
