Whitney Houston debuted her new album I Look To You on Tuesday night (July 14) to an eager group of industry peeps in London.
The singer took the stage to thank long-time collaborator and friend Clive Davis for his help with getting her back in the studio.
“When Clive called me I was pretty ready to buy my island home [and retire],” she told the crowd. “But he said, ‘No, you’re going to sing again, people want to hear you.’”
The long-overdue album is still being tweeked ahead of it’s September 1 release, but Davis said the sound will still be classic Whitney.
“We didn’t try to fit Whitney Houston into the market,” Davis explained. “The copyrights associated with Whitney in the 1980s and ’90s are part of the fabric of music today.”
