Whoopi Goldberg defended Mel Gibson’s alleged recent antics during the Hot Topics segment of The View on Monday (July 12) saying, “I know he’s not a racist… I don’t like what he did here, but I know Mel and I know he’s not a racist.”
To me, I think Goldberg sounds like she is in denial. We don't always know people as well as we like to think and it doesn't matter how long you've known them.
For her to justify his use of racial slurs and claim he's not racist because he has spent time in her home is ridiculous. Like I said, we don't know people as well as we like to think.
If anything, his use of the slurs suggests he has a mindset that sees people of color as inferior. People can and do smile in your face and talk about you behind your back.
Who knows what he had to say about Goldberg to someone else when she was not there to defend herself?
