Wicked Heading To The Big Screen

July 16th, 2008

Universal Pictures production president Donna Langley has revealed that the movie company is in negotiations to make a big screen version of the hit musical ‘Wicked’.

“Our goal now is absolutely to make the ‘Wicked’ film,” Langley tells Variety. “But much like Judy Craymer wouldn’t give up screen rights to ‘Mamma Mia!’ until the stage show had reached its pinnacle, Marc and Stephen Schwartz are very mindful of the right timing. But we’re dying to do it.”

Marc Platt, who recently extended his contract with Universal Pictures for five years, is set to make the movie version saying he is in “early movie talks” with the studio.

The screenplay will be written by Winnie Holzman, who wrote the book for the stage production of Wicked, however, no casting decisions had been made.
