Will Smith’s School Denies Links With Scientology

June 30th, 2008

A school that’s been funded by Will Smith and his wife Jada Pinkett Smith has denied reports that it has links to Scientology, after claims in the media that it preaches the word of the writings of L. Ron Hubbard.

The New Village Academy, set to open in September, will use some material developed by the controversial writer, with the school director insisting that even though some of the teachers are Scientologists, the Academy is non-denominational.

“We are a secular school,” Jacqueline Olivier told the Los Angeles Times.

“And just like all nonreligious independent schools, faculty and staff do not promote their own religions at school or pass on the beliefs of their particular faith to children.”
