X-Men Origins: Wolverine – We’ve Seen It!

April 27th, 2009

Hugh Jackman, the world’s most sexiest man, dons the sideburns, the metal and those high-waisted jeans in the new X-Men Origins: Wolverine; we’ve seen it (in a cinema, not a dodgy online version), so read our review after the jump.

Following the success of the original trilogy, there’s a lot of pressure riding on this flick, particularly after numerous reports of expensive re-shoots, on-set fights and an internet leak of an incomplete version.

We went in as fans of the series, but held no expectation that this was going to live up to the hype or the originals.  We were pleasantly surprised.

Despite the fact that Jackman is an all-round Mr. Nice Guy, he dons the Wolverine scowl – and the white wife beater – well, and faces off against Liev Schreiber’s Victor in some incredible fight scenes.

Overall, the movie is fast-moving and slick, with audiences brought up to speed on Logan’s back story within minutes (including through the fantastic opening title sequence). The film then focuses on the relationship Wolverine has with his brother (Schrieber), his girlfriend, and ultimately, revenge.

Ryan Reynolds makes an appearance and bangs out his usual schtick, while there was a surprise cameo (we won’t spoil it) that brought a smile and applause from the audience.

Overall, X-Men Origins: Wolverine has more than enough spark to reignite the franchise, so here’s hoping to a sequel featuring Halle Berry’s Storm sometime soon!

Terrible, terrible review. Are you on Fox’s payroll?

  2. huh? Says:

this is a lame review. actually, this isn’t really a review. what are the strengths? what are some weaknesses? how is the story? get fox’s d*ck out of your mouth and learn how to write a review.

Hey angry fanboys! Here’s a tip: Maybe he actually LIKED the movie. Maybe not everyone has the same taste in films. MAYBE he’s not an angry fanboy with a childish agenda against Fox.
    Maybe…

  4. Heidi Says:

I definitely do NOT want to see a movie focused on Halle Berry as Storm.

If this review isn’t biased I’ll gladly neck myself.
You expect us to believe the audience actually applauded a cameo appearance? Gambit? er, no. Deadpool? Doubt it.
Out of all the first reviews this is by far the worst.
At least the others say what they liked and didn’t like about the movie.
Everyone knows the opening sequence is probably the best thing filmed in this POS movie and it only went for 5 minutes.
Most of this review you could read off the back of a dvd or vhs for you older readers ;)

Dude Gambit and Deadpool are not surprise cameos as everyone knows they are in the film. It is most likely a young storm that is the surpise cameo and if the scene is handled well i could see people clapping that…Sounds like you are really biased against this movie. Maybe just don’t see it and chill out- all that raging must be bad for your health.

This is not a review, its an advertisement.

    The hell with this.

  8. wolfie Says:

sounds like some folk are jealous at not seeing it first.

  9. The Truth Says:

Hello from tempe, I showed up to boo Jackman, If I had a tomato I would have thrown it at him. This is the best thing that could have happened to FOX, the leaking, so that the common Marvel fan is not bilked out of their money like Daredevil or Elekra. Deadpool is being hyped like he is in the movie more than 10 minutes – disgusting. Now they are pimping Emma Frost? Secret variable endings? Desperate.

The fist 30 minutes are awesome. The remaining movie does not hold X-Men 3′s Jock. Do not support his turd and rent it. F you hollywood, Hugh Jackman and Fox!

  10. Watcher Says:

Wow. So much anger. Guys if you don’t like the movie don’t watch it. Thing is, Hollywood is going to make movies out of Marvel comics for many years. And obviously no adaptation can be totally faithful to the original. I agree that Daredevil and Elektra were crappy, but let’s watch the thing and judge it as a movie. Don’t judge it against your idealized version of a Marvel comic because nothing can live up to that eh?

    Hey hey guys. be cool.
if you want to hate the reviewer, sure.fine.
But don’t HATE the movie. I have seen it and IT ROCKS!!!
Good things: it is as good as Xmen2. it is intellegent. acting is Perfect.
    Action scene are very welldone.
bad things: the end fight is LAME!!!! yeah totally lame.
but it is just this few minutes fight after that the things get better and the finale is really makes you realize why WOLVERINE is like that. If you guys had read ULTIMATE XMEN : Blockbuster series then you would know what i am talking about. really touching. I would give 9/10 to the movie. Go see it. and I don’t work for fuachs.

  12. Spencer Says:

Everyone on here hating on Wolverine can eat one. I’ve never understood people who bash movies like this (superhero/comic book). They’re movies that only people who enjoy that genre of movie are going to appreciate. And I’d be hard pressed to find anyone who likes Wolverine who thinks the original or this new one is not at the very least “entertaining”. To say you hate it, or it sucks tells me you don’t like Wolverine. So why are you going to the movie in the first place? Anyone who doesn’t like a dude with claws who beats the crap out of people needs their head examined. That is the most awesome thing in the world.

  13. Nomad Says:

i wondered sometimes (like during any of the explosion scenes) if the producers were trying to make fun of their own movie, or maybe the superhero genre in general
