New York Fracas: Gerard Butler’s Dog Attacked

August 27th, 2009

Gerard-Butler-Columbia-PicturesBuff Hollywood actor Gerard Butler has been involved an altercation on the streets of New York – but it was his pet pug, Lolita, who was at the center of the sidewalk scuffle.

We are pleased to report that no canines were seriously injured in the fracas; the humans involved, on the other hand, appear to be gearing up for a fight.

Gerard-Butler-Columbia-PicturesIt’s a story that has made headline entertainment news (slow news day?), and it begins Monday afternoon in New York City.

Butler was walking his pet pug when the dog – you can see the actor playing with his beloved pooch here – was attacked by a greyhound named Mayfly.

According to star’s rep, the greyhound pounced on Lolita and bit her, “so [Gerard] separated them to protect both dogs.”

Mayfly’s owners promptly called the police. By the time officers arrived, Butler and Lolita were nowhere to be seen, so no citation was issued.

It seems that Mayfly’s owners were most upset that Lolita wasn’t on a lead, Detective Martin Speechley of the New York Police Department tells E! News.

“One owner stated to the other owner that their dog should be on a leash, and they were cussed out because of it,” Speechley says.

According to TMZ, it was Butler’s dog that was not on the leash, although she was leaded up after the altercation.

A report for harassment was taken from the greyhound owners, who told the New York Post that Gerard “smacked their dog in the head”, a claim that his rep denies.

Lolita, we’re happy to learn, is recovering, his rep adds.
